Android Wear Marshmallow Update Incoming

16 Nov , 2015

Due to the recent Android Wear 1.4 app update, we’ve discovered Google is getting ready to release Marshmallow for wear. If you haven’t already downloaded it, head over to the Google Play Store and get it now. Hopefully you’ll be one of the first lucky ones to get the features packed in this firmware update. This is what is currently listed below:

[appbox googleplay com.google.android.wearable.app]

  • Ability to play sounds and take calls on watches with a speaker
  • Support for sending WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, Telegram, and Nextplus messages with your voice or via touch
  • New gestures to control your watch with one hand
  • Battery life improvements
  • Language options for Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian, Polish, Dutch, and Thai

Yes, finally we’ll soon be able to experience sound with Android Wear Smartwatches that have a speaker. This feature is on of the few main things that separated Android Wear from the Apple Watch. It’s about time this was implemented because lets face it, there are a few instances where it would be convenient to take a call from your watch. Depending on the situation, sound notifications can also free up your time by looking less at your watch if you  at a library or a movie theater (then it would be turned off just like your phone).

Sending voice messages will be a standard feature built in Android Wear now. Yes there have been a few apps to make use of sending voice messages to someone in your contacts, but they weren’t universal. A cool app we liked using is the app called Cord if you do want to check that out! Now this means there’s one less app you need in your Android Wear app drawer.

Battery life improvements are always welcome with anything especially with new Android Wear updates. We’re still learning more about new features as they come with Android Wear Marshmallow. Stay tuned for more here at Android Wear Base and on our Twitter and Facebook!
